Dr. Ranjan calls for more awareness on blood donation

Imphal: Health and IPR Minister Dr. S. Ranjan Singh has said that donating blood can save lives of others who are in need of blood. The Minister was speaking as Chief Guest at the 2nd Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Camp organised by the CID (Technical) Branch held at the Banquet Hall of 1st MR Imphal, on Thursday.

Ranjan said that there is no harm in donating blood and keeping adequate blood in stock is very necessary since any calamity may occur at any time. He disclosed that the quantity of blood collected from donors in the State is comparatively less in comparison to the actual requirement of the state. More volunteers need to come out to join the campaign of blood donation in order to maintain the required stock in the blood banks, he observed.

The Minister maintained that more awareness programmes on blood donation is also necessary in order to evade the wrong concept of blood donation. Mentioning the anti-drug campaign, Ranjan said that understanding the ill effects of drug abuse, all need to extend help to make the anti-drug campaign successful.

He also informed that in view of the gradually increasing COVID cases in the State, the government has taken up precautionary measures.

Review meeting has been convened. Order has been issued for conducting compulsory COVID tests at major entry points of the State. Oxygen cylinders, ICU wards and isolation wards have been ready. Unnecessary gatherings should be avoided, he added.

Presiding over the programme, Director General of Police P. Doungel, IPS, said that blood donors are doing a noble job by saving lives of others and one who is eligible to donate blood should avoid hesitation on blood donation. He also congratulated all the volunteer blood donors.

ADGP, Manipur Klay Khongsai, IPS, IGP, Range I, Themthing Ngasangva, RMO, JNIMS, Dr. K. Suraj and C.O. 2nd MR, Y. Victoria, MPS also shared the dais on the occasion.
