Woman arrested for smuggling Heroin In Manipur
New Delhi: Kakching Police commando team led by OC Inspector Md. Abash Khan has arrested a woman Sneha Thounaojam, wife of Sarungbam Yoihenba Meitei of Patsoi Part-II, Imphal West from Pallel Lamkhai for smuggling Heroin No. 4 on Sunday.
According to a source, the Commando team led by its OC were conducting frisking and checking at Pallel CDO Check-post on Sunday. One Maruti Gypsy vehicle (White in colour) bearing Registration No. MN04P-0670 coming from Pallel side was stopped for checking but the vehicle tried to escape from the police.
The source continued that the vehicle was chased by the CDO team and was found near Axis Bank, Kakching; however the driver had already escaped by abandoning the vehicle.
On checking the vehicle after observing formalities, a total of 63 numbers of soap cases containing suspected Heroin No.4 powder were detected which were concealed behind the panel of the right door and behind both the panels of the body of the vehicle. The contraband items weighed approximately 723 grams excluding the weight of the soap cases and were seized.
Based on receiving information that one woman associated with the vehicle driver is presently residing at Pallel Lamkhai, Havaldar Chaoba and Head Constable Rohit assisted by one lady Commando personnel rushed to the area and detained the woman.
The woman identified herself as Sneha Thounaojam, wife of Sarungbam Yoihenba Meitei of Patsoi Part-II, Imphal west district but at present settling at Pallel Chandel Lamkhai. The woman admitted that she was the owner of the drugs and had planned the transportation of contraband drugs by concealing it inside the vehicle. She also admitted that the vehicle driver is her relative.
The woman was arrested and the seized articles have been handed over to Kakching Police Station OC for taking up further necessary legal action. Efforts to arrest the driver of the vehicle are underway.
