Naharlagun Police Arrest Two Wanted Accused in Separate Cases from West Bengal and Assam

Naharlagun, April 13, 2025: In August 2024, multiple written complaints were received at Naharlagun Police Station, alleging that Debashish Kar, a jeweller operating a shop at G Extension, Naharlagun, had fraudulently collected gold ornaments from various customers under the pretext of repair and remaking.
AAfter accumulating a substantial quantity of gold jewellery, the accused absconded from Naharlagun and remained in hiding across different states, frequently changing his location and mobile numbers. Accordingly, a case was registered vide Naharlagun PS Case No. 62/24 U/S 409 IPC.
During the course of investigation, sustained technical and conventional surveillance was mounted and the accused was finally traced to Kolkata. A police team led by SI N. Rama, Ct. Sanu Raj and Ct. B. Mitkong with assistance from West Bengal Police, arrested the accused Debashish Kar (55) from Habra, West Bengal under the supervision of Inspector K. Dev OC PS Naharlagun and SDPO Shri Rishi Longdo and overall coordination of SP Naharlagun Shri Mihin Gambo. He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, 24 North Parganas, Barasat, West Bengal, where a two-day transit remand was granted. The accused has been brought back to Naharlagun for further investigation.
In another case, vide Naharlagun PS Case No. 47/25 U/S 305(a) BNS, a local woman lodged a complaint alleging that an amount of Rs. 4 lakhs had been fraudulently withdrawn from her bank account by one Srinu. Acting under the guidance of Inspector K. Dev OC PS Naharlagun and following diligent technical and conventional investigation, the accused was traced to Guwahati, Assam.
A team led by SI B. P. Singh, L/Ct. Dani Ampi, Ct. A. Perme, and Ct. T. Nikia, with support from Assam Police, apprehended the accused Srinu Chekka (33) years from Ambari, Guwahati. He was produced before the Learned CJM, Kamrup, Guwahati, and subsequently brought to Naharlagun for further investigation.
Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, commended the police teams for their successful arrests in both cases, achieved through well-coordinated interstate operations.
